@Johan, It's just different ways to look at it. I would definitely not say that you're ignorant if you make an effort to make a site fully functional in IE6 and just don't take it all the way. Just as long you're aware of what you have or haven't done and can explain why I think it's ok.

I know that some users don't have a choice, that's why I think it's important to still provide functionality for IE6.

Simon: I think we all agree on that websites do not have to look the same in all browsers. It's just a matter of where we draw the line. And where we draw the line can vary from project to project depending on client, the web statistics of the site, personal preferences etc...

Leaving it looking ugly on purpose, to get people to upgrade is a bit ignorant. In most cases the user don't have a choice. Besides, Fixing the png is little work for much improvement.

My personal opinion is that we just should stop doing things like what this article describes.

I don't say that sites we make shouldn't work in IE6. I totally agree with Stokes. I do believe it's important that we still code our sites so they are fully functional and that the design don't brake in IE6. But how far should we go? Don't you think that IE6 users can face the fact that they don't get everything that that modern browsers can give them? I mean, even you, when spending time on just one image and don't get the same result in IE6 as in FF3.6, why really bother? Why don't leave something out there that makes it worth to upgrade to a more modern browser?!

Don't get me wrong, I don't think your post sucks. I often use the js-version you mention and if there is room in your project for this you should use a technique like any of above.
